What is a Room Parent?
Room parents contribute greatly to having a fun and successful year in each classroom. Each classroom has two room parents who serve as a liaison between the teacher and the other parents in the classroom. The role differs slightly depending on the teacher and the needs of the classroom. This is an important role and involves a time commitment, yet no prior experience is needed! It is a great way to be involved in your child’s school year in a meaningful way.
Room Parent Responsibilities:
- Communicate regularly with the teacher about any classroom needs (supplies, volunteers, chaperones, etc.)
- Set up email communication with classroom parents (with permission) to send out event reminders, volunteer requests, etc.
- Coordinate classroom-wide gifts throughout the year (holiday and end of year)
- Attend biannual Thompson-wide Room Parent Meetings (fall and spring)
- Assist grade level PTO Representative to execute and recruit for grade level event
- Communicate with the PTO Room Parent Chairperson as needed
