Friday 1/17

We had a busy day!
We started our morning with a school wide assembly. The fourth graders shared about their immigration projects.
For Readers' Workshop, the kids read for 35 minutes!!! :)
Friday Fun was definitely fun- Creation Station, K' nex and imaginary play were some of the busy areas.
The kids learned something tricky during math- addition story problems with 3 addends.  The kids solved a story problem and they shared out all of the different strategies they used- counting all, counting on, tally marks and using known combinations.

Ask your child to show you how they would solve this story problem.
I have 6 red fish, 3 blue fish, and 4 orange fish.  How many fish are there altogether?

Our Read Aloud today- The kids loved hearing so many sweet things about Uncle M.L.
Each child wrote a hope or dream they have.  What big hearts these first graders have!!

Our day ended with our fifth grade buddies!

Enjoy the long weekend :)  See you all on Tuesday.

  1. Hi Mrs Melnik's class! We are Morah Elyse's grade one class in Montreal. We also have buddies in our school, they are in grade four! We are also learning how to add with three numbers! It is a lot of fun to read your blog and see what stories you are reading and see what you are doing in your class! We know how to make tally marks too! What city do you live in? We live in Montreal, in Canada. We are learning about penguins. We even adopted one! If you come visit our blog, go to the penguin page and you can read all about it! We hope you visit our blog soon! Bye for now!

  2. We live in Arlington, MA in the USA. We can't wait to learn more about how you adopted a penguin. It sounds awesome and so fun. For adding three numbers, we make number strings. Do you?
