Wed. 1/8

We started our morning with Writer's Workshop.  It was a really calm way to start the day.  The children had the option of writing on Book Creator or paper and were writing small moments-mostly about their vacation.

We had our first Reader's Workshop of the year.  The kids read for 15 minutes.  Most children choose to do buddy reading, some read independently.  At the end we had a discussions about the things they thought they did really well on and some goals for tomorrow.... Good-using reading strategies, reading with a friend, figuring out a hard work.  Goals-be a bit more quiet and read for longer!

Math- The kids created a missing addend story problem and had a friend solve it. They finished up any stations from earlier in the week.
Try practicing these tricky problems at home!
Here's an example:  Daisy played with 6 toys in the morning.  She played with some more in the afternoon.  By the end of the day, she played with 11 toys in all.  How many toys did she play with in the afternoon?
6+ ____ = 11 toys
Many children like to use the strategy of counting on... Some use known facts such as 6 + 4 = 10 so one more must be 5.

Ms. Burden led a fun winter globe activity in the afternoon.
We ended our day with a fun read-aloud: There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow!
